Speeding up Strategic Projects

When may you be interested in this service?

If you have a project that is crucial to your strategy, with a full team in place, that is going to finish too late and needs acceleration.

What does this service consist of?

It essentially consists of workshops and meeting interactions with the existing project team, leading to a modified Project Plan that is recognized by the team to be more robust and quicker. Total effort is of the order of days or one week, not months. Next, the project team can proceed autonomously with the execution of this plan as they agreed to it.

The approach is based upon Goldratt's critical chain project management, first published in 1997 with the novel Critical Chain, applying Goldratt's Theory of Constraints (well-known from his bestseller The Goal) on project management. Goldratt improved understanding on the relation between human behavior (management of uncertainty) and multi-tasking on project lead times, and offered a practical way to link project decisions to the company bottom line (profit). This methodology is recognized also by scholars to be a major breakthrough in the area of project management, yet it is oddly not very well-known in the project management community.

I applied the critical chain approach on the development of ESA's first small satellite Proba (the development from scratch up to launch in less than half the normal time: from 1998 to 2001).

I refined a specific process based on Critical Chain to accelerate and derisk projects that was also part of my course given at the University of Antwerp Management School from 2006 to 2010

I introduced/applied this approach at B&A Systems, OIP and Barco, by modifying existing Project Plans in few days into shorter durations.
